What are unemployment benefits?
Unemployment benefits are a statutory right enacted by the Faroese Parliament.
ALS is financed by employers and employees in the Faroes. This means that as a recipient of A-income (income taxed at source), you help contribute to the financing of ALS.
ALS provides benefits through a variety of systems stipulated in laws and regulations. The same fundamentals apply across all these systems, but certain differences are found in each system.
The systems are:
- Regular unemployment benefits
- The fish factory system
- Self-employed businesspeople
- Voluntary unemployment benefits
- Fishermen – out of work due to repairs to fishing vessel.
